Safari crashes after reopening app from background

since around tuesday every time i would reopen safari when it was previously in the background, it would instantly crash or hang for ~10 seconds and then crash. and every error log in provacy>analytica and improvents>analytics data mentions "EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE" as the error code of the crash.

the way this happens is that is open safari fresh like if i force quitted the app, i go into background for a few minutes, and then i reopen safari while it was in the background for it to crash with exc_bad_access (sigsegv).

i have tried

  • force quitting safari
  • restarting my iPad
  • updating to iOS 18.2.1
  • cleared history and website data

but nothing had worked...

i feel like this is a deeper software kind of issue or prolonged bug. is there any other way to resolve this problem? i really dont want to have to reinstall iOS to fix this problem.

thank you in advance
