How to turn off vertical line attached to Comment Markers on MacBook?

Some of my Comment Markers have a short vertical line attached to the marker. How do I turn this on or off?

SGIII, Here is a screenshot of some cells with and some without the vertical lines. I can't remember how these vertical lines were produced, but I would like to know how to turn them off. Does no one know how to generate them? If there is something different about the cells themselves, I don't know what it is.

It's hard to tell from your screenshot. I don't see anything like those lines in Numbers on my machine, hence the question. Is there something "different" about the cells that have the lines in comparison to other cells with comments that don't display the lines? And have you tried the old standby for clearing up unexplainable glitches? – restart your Mac?
