Wired earphones with usbc adapter don't work with my pad

So right i got a lightning to usbc adapter for my wired earphones so i could connect it to my iPad generation 10 and listen to music. And it doesn’t work, the ipad will play sounds from its main speakers and not into the earphones. I already cleaned the ports and also shut down my ipad. I’m using the apple wired earphones with the lightning cable port. Can somebody pls help thanks!!
