iPhone charger wont insert into port

For anyone waking up or trying to insert the charging cable into the port and all of a sudden for no apparent reason it doesn’t fit……. I woke this morning with the same problem and PANIC, everything is on my phone incl. travel cards, credit cards etc…… I took a wooden tooth pick and made sure the port was clear and found the most minute piece of debris (a tiny tiny metal U shaped section). It looks like it’s come from the inner part of the charging port. Fished it out and I’m breathing easier but still mystified.
