Music App changes 'Files' location if it opens before NAS mounted

I'm in the process of archiving my CD collection (a lot of which is not on Apple Music due to age and genre)

I'm storing this on a NAS and have set the location of the library in the SETTINGS>FILES option menu. However if for whatever reason the NAS drive doesn't show up in finder when the Music app is launched, it automatically resets the files location to the default (Users USERNAME Music Music Media Music). without giving any indication it has done so.

Is there a way to stop this happening (or getting a pop-up saying it's changed?)

No. This is long standing behaviour in Music and iTunes before it. I recommend placing your library on an external drive, database included, as if the drive isn't ready Music will say it cannot find the library but not reset the media folder. You then cancel, wait for the drive to be ready, then open as normal. You can clone the library to the NAS for security.
