HomePod Mini: something went wrong

I recently got a HomePod mini during Christmas time, and have set it up to turn on/off the lamp in our living room with a tappo smart plug. That is the only task it has so far, and it somehow doesn’t work for only me. When my gf says “Siri, turn the light on,” it works. When I say the same thing, I get a “sorry, something went wrong.” What’s odd to me is that it works when I say to turn the light off. I have tried resetting the HomePod multiple times, turning off and on personal requests, and removing the plug and adding it back. Nothing seems to fix the issue
