Siri issues on my iPhone XR

Wife has iphone xr with 18.1.1 os. I can get Siri to announce who is calling but "she does not request if I want to answer the call". I can only connect by touching the screen. Her iwatch does the same thing. Siri is set to "announce calls", "set to always", set to operate when locked, "Hey Siri" is enabled and works, microphone works as Siri can hear me. I would like to be able to answer calls hands free, and tell Siri to out put on the speaker, from what I can discover online this should be possible but after numerous tries cannot accomplish it. Any help from the group would be truly appreciated.

Thank you.

To make this clear here: Am I right in interpreting that in this context, "she" refers to Siri, Apple's voice assistant. The statement means that while Siri announces who is calling on the user's wife's iPhone XR, Siri does not follow up by asking if the user wants to answer the call.

Respond to Siri announcements hands-free

You can nod or shake your head to respond to Siri announcements while you’re wearing supported AirPods. So if you’re on the bus to work, you can still use Siri for managing calls, messages, and notifications without having to speak out loud. See Use controls and gestures with your AirPods in the AirPods User Guide.

Siri can announce calls and notifications from apps like Messages on supported headphones. Announce Calls also works with supported third-party apps. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch. Tap Siri, then turn on Announce Calls.

Announce calls, messages, and more with Siri on iPhone

Summary:

Siri's "Announce Calls" feature works when you're using compatible headphones (like AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, or certain Beats models) or CarPlay. Here's how it works:

  • On Headphones or AirPods: Siri announces the caller's name (or number if not in your contacts) when you receive a call. You can answer the call hands-free by saying, “Answer,” or ignore it by saying, “Decline.”
  • Without Headphones/AirPods: Siri won't announce calls directly over the iPhone's speaker or other connected audio sources (e.g., external speakers). Instead, it relies on visible notifications or vibrations.

Hi SravanKra.

You are correct in your first statement. Siri will announce who is calling. But I do not get the announcement do I want to connect the call or decline it. I want to be able to answer the call hands free. Without headphones on. I have seen Youtube videos of this being done, but cannot manage to get the feature to work.

Thank you for trying to help.
