Why does iTunes keep crashing during my iPad update?

I have a windows laptop running iTunes 12134.4.3008.0

I got a new iPad 10th generation today which requires an update to OS 18.2 but every time I attempt the update, iTunes crashes leaving my iPad frozen and now unusable.

i do not have Apple Music, Apple TV or Apple devices for windows apps installed and I have tried running iTunes as administrator but nothing is working to solve the issue

UPDATE:

I’ve just used an older laptop with an older version of iTunes and it worked without crashing. Ipad updated to OS 18.2 and working fine.
