File sizes smaller on Mac mini M4 than on PC. Why?

I use video proc vlogger to render GoPro videos. I am new to Mac.

I've noticed the file sizes are three times on average smaller on Mac mini M4 of the finished video than they are on PC. The settings on video proc vlogger are the same on both Mac and Pc and I am rendering the same video file on both. Quality of the finished video is the same on both machines from a image and audio viewpoint. How is this possible?

That seems to be the cause for different output sizes. How does it compare if you use exact same settings?

Also ffmpeg has an option for CPU or HW accelerated encode and at least on my Mac CPU encode is much slower but it has more fine grained compression options so the output files are smaller with the same visual quality.

I am using video proc vlogger editing software for Mac and Pc. When choosing export settings I am using the same settings on both Mac and Pc and getting the same quality of rendered file when viewed on my Sony 4K TV. But PC file size is around 14 gig and Mac file size is around 5 gig. Only difference is GPU acceleration ticked on PC and not on Mac as Video proc vlogger does not appear to be able to use Mac mini M4 GPU acceleration yet. Possibly they need to update their driver to use Mac GPU hard ware exceleration. Maybe rendering with CPU on Mac alone results in smaller file sizes due to efficiency who knows but certainly unexpected as my videos now take up less room for the same output quality.

Thanks for your input I guess you are right about cpu having finer grained options. I would never not use hardware acceleration on my PC as it would take for ever to render because the cpu is 10 years old. I have gotten used to VideoProc Vlogger editing software and I don't seam to be able to choose hard ware acceleration on the Mac However it is still quicker than the PC. As I learn more about how Macs work I might try Final Cut Pro. I bought this Mac mini as it was cheaper than upgrading my PC and would perform better unless I really went to town on the PC components as I don't use either the Mac or my PC for anything else other than rendering GoPro videos Mac seamed the way forward as I would also get a much smaller foot print machine. I do every thing else on my phone. So far I am very satisfied with the workflow in 4 k I could not even scroll through the video on my PC it would be choppy and could not play raw GoPro footage the Mac has no such problem. When I can get around to it I will render a video on both Mac and PC without hardware acceleration enabled and see what the file sizes are with all other setting being equal. Thank you to all for your input it just amazed me how small the file sizes were for such high quality footage.
