Screen Turns Black But More Than That ......

On several occasions and out of nowhere, my screen turns black. I can get it back by using the up and down bars and a restart BUT that is not the issue. The issue is that once I get back on, my screen is sooo black that I cannot see to get into settings. What I need to do is go to Display and Brightness and adjust this because on its own, it turns off.

Does this happen to anyone else? This is crazy
