Group FaceTime eavesdropping on iPhone 13 with iOS 18.1.1

Yesterday I was included on a group FaceTime call while my phone was on silent. I did not know the call was happening and did not answer it.

Later I was told that the other people in the group could hear me in the background even though I hadn’t answer the call.

I have an iPhone 13 running iOS 18.1.1

I’ve googled this and can’t find mention of it since 2019.

Do I have any options other than turning FaceTime off?
