CarPlay "Hey Siri" not working

I have an open ticket with Apple at the moment and thought I would share my issue in hopes others could contribute to possible causes or fixes.

When my iPhone 15 Pro is connected to CarPlay in my nearly new Honda Accord using Hey Siri or Siri does not work. Yet, if I speak a Vocal Shortcut that I have created; "Snapshot", the camera app opens on my iPhone, which shows that the iPhone hears my voice and responds.

Yes, I have taken all the steps I could find in the forum and confirmed with the Apple Specialist that every step has been checked off. The only fix was suggested by someone else in this forum and it is clunky but it works. Rebooting the Head Unit by holding the Home button until the option to reboot displays.

After that, CarPlay responds to "Hey Siri/Siri". But it works as long as the car is running. Once turned off the Head Unit has to be rebooted again. Everytime.

Yes I've reset Network settings, made sure "Hey Siri" or "Siri" is turned on and when the iPhone is locked. A VPN isn't running and other steps so many I can't remember them all.

My issue has been sent to Apple Engineers and expect to hear back from them. I'll update this after I hear back.

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18

Troubleshooting "Hey Siri" with CarPlay:

Use "Forget this Device":

If this keeps going away, then remove your device from the audio systems and then add it back. That would make it re-repair (not repair), perhaps fixing the sync issue.

Troubleshooting "Hey SIRI":

A. Start here: If "Hey Siri" isn't Working on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

B. Take to an Appel store:

You'd setup a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store, taking it in for service. There, it will be diagnosed, and you'll be provided with your options.

A. Restore your iPhone from a Backup:

Have any backups of this iPhone prior to this occurrence? If so, restore your iPhone from one that has these photos (the most recent backup, ideally). If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to always back up your device for recovery purposes. Important: Back up your iPhone prior to performing this restoration, should anything go wrong from here on out.

D. Report this to Apple:

Do your part: Let Apple know what is going on here. Provide them with feedback on this. They may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they received on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when this issue began, and how you have troubleshot it this far. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there aw necessary
