Compilation albums not syncing correctly on iPhone after iOS 18.2 update

I don't have a subscription to Apple Music, I have about 600 CD's that through the years I've collected and downloaded to my Mac Mini, first to iTunes then when Apple replaced it with Apple Music all my songs transferred intact, it was actually a seamless transition, so everything was sync and the albums look the mirror image of Apple music on the mac and the iPhone.

after the last update to iPhone (15 pro max, and the new update is iOS 18.2), the compilation albums are not matching see image below

I remove the album from the iPhone and load it again and the first time looks as it should.

Then when I unplug the phone and plug again and sync, it reverts to one song one album.

I also try by changing the name of the album then sync, it looks back to normal, then unplug and plug and sync and reverts to one song one album, this I have found on compilations, haven't found the same issue on non compilations.

And yes the compilation box is checked on all compilation albums.

Has anyone have a permanent solution?

Still an issue as of the time of post. I noticed not just the compilations being bugged like what you’ve shown but LYRICS are selectively not being synced either, my manually inputted lyrics.

I have over 11,000 of ripped and legally purchased lossless downloads in my library. I appreciate the temporary compromise provided below but I simply don’t have the time to resolve it that way when it was never broken before. Apple needs to fix this.

Other info :

  • Synced Music onto phone via Selected Playlists
  • Noticed this issue from the moment I had to remove my entire music library from iPhone 13 Pro and resync from my Macbook Pro [regrettably]
  • Ensured Album Artists and compilation tick box are in order

Thanks for the suggestion but that didn't work on mine.

I'm really not sure what's going on here. My Christmas compilations are okay but several blues compilations are stubborn. For what it's worth, some CDs have composers but most don't. Since it's only two CDs giving me a problem, and it's Christmas Eve, I'm going to let this go and mess with it later.

Hi again.

Well, I compared the file info from compilations that stayed together and those that didn't and I couldn't spot a difference. Since I was only dealing with two bad ones I did the following:

  1. Typed in the album name for the "Artist" field for the album, not the songs, and uncheck the Compilations box.
  2. Went through each song and made sure the album name was in the "Artist" field, cleared out the "Album Artist" field, and the "Composer" field, and made sure the Compilations box was unchecked.

This turned the Compilations into regular Albums.

It's not a perfect fix but at least it's keeping the songs together.

Good luck with this and have a safe New Year.

I also still listen to my local digital file collection on my iPhone, and I've been having this same problem too. It oddly appears to persist with certain compilation albums but not others with me as well. (For the record, I have indeed made the 'album artist' information consistent across each album, so that's not the problem.)

Seems to be a bug in the Apple Music iOS app. I have a Windows computer and use MediaMonkey to organize and transfer the music files to my phone, and I initially thought that had been the problem, but that seems not to be the case from this thread.

Has anyone had any luck solving this since the last messages?
