Digital Hi-8 tape transfer to I-Movie weird issue-S.O.S

hello all,

i'm wondering if there's a way to import video directly from my hi-8 camcorder into i-movie without i-movie breaking it up(or down)into individual clips/scenes for each time code change? the reason i ask,is because when i-movie does this, it cuts a fraction of a second,or a frame or two,from the end of each individual clip,to then just add what it shaved onto the start of the next clip..and it's annoying asf those times you want to edit anything,because every single clip/scene is short that small end piece,and when you're working with really quick consecutive shots,those milliseconds are the ends of words or an action or bla bla la whatever ever's intended..and then i've gotta...etc etc. i've figured out workarounds,but it'd be rad not to have to---any thoughts/advice/ info'd be super appreciated_🤘❤️
