After I tap the bell to unsubscribe from the post , it continues to appear in my subscriptions . Some of them are 2-4 weeks old . Am I missing something here ?

Hello~ It’s a known issue. You must unsubscribe as many times as you’ve posted , refresh and repeat until the bell is unsubscribed status. Give it a try…

By refresh do you mean leave the community site then sign back in ?

You can only unsubscribe to entire communities. Once you reply to a thread, you are subscribed for life. The unsubscribe button has no effect.
Hello again ~ I just hit browse and return to thread over and over. Just a workaround that works for me.
