I’m trying to get my photos off my very old 2013 desktop Mac before it dies. It’s running OS 10.15.7 and I cannot update the OS without fearing total destruction. I found the Western Digital Ultra HD but it is only compatible for OS 11 +. Any advice on what HD’s to buy that are compatible for my computer. Looking for 2 different brands so I can safely copy phots to both HD’s and delete completely off my desktop. Thanks!

you do not want to use any preloaded software (or install such software yourself) that supposedly makes a drive "Mac ready". when you use software from just about any manufacturer for their storage device you run the risk of that same software not being compatible with macOS updates / upgrades. it can cause the software to stop working. at best this will cause you a headache. at worst it can render your data inaccessible. it is always best to use disk utility to erase and format a drive before use to remove any preloaded software.

Any generic external USB hard disk drive will work including Western Digital products.
Operating system compatibility is not a factor. Do not install their software; it's junk.
