I can't record MIDI from my external Chord Synthesizer (Roland J-6) into Logic Pro X

I am unable to record midi from my external synth using class compliant USB-C to USB-A cable (from synth to Mac directly). I am able to hear the synth sounds and also can record that sound on an audio track BUT I can't record on an external midi track as desired.

Please help.. would I need to plug the synth into my Focusrite 2i2 audio interface to get this right?

I don't know the Roland J-6. Does it need midi drivers? Look at Roland's support site.

The pictures you posted are not quite relevant. The first photo relates to the audio settings. You have set the audio output to JBL Charge 5 and the audio input to J-6.

The second photo refers to the midi output. But what you are looking for is the midi input. Look in the Utilities > Audio-Midi-Setup.app if you can see the J-6 as midi input.

However, if it is possible to connect the synth midi to the Focusrite card, this is definitely an alternative.
