Mac Mini Pro M4 auto-reboot +SOCD report detected: (AP watchdog expired)

Been luckier than some posting on this subject as far back as 2022 with their M1 Mac Mini's and expressing hope that Apple will fix this issue. Good luck with that, I am getting the problem with my brand new Mac mini Pro M4. Yes, I am using an OWC dock, (one of the reasons I purchased the M4 is it's advertised ability to use external 'add-on drives) So far I only seem to get the one auto-reboot, generally after the machine has slept for extended periods, like overnight.

Still, it's annoying for a much vaunted and pretty expensive new machine. Unfortunately, I am not able to add any useful 'fixes' to this problem. Guess I just would like to remind Apple it still exists!

Mac mini, macOS 15.1

You can also enable “Require password” under “Lock Screen”, no problem. Shutting the Mac is an option for long absences and overnights -it’s good practice but not required. You can leave it on with no compromises whatsoever. Sleep is not good practice, it is faulty operation. Avoid.

'Sleep is not good practice, it is faulty operation'

Okay, I have never heard that before but my knowledge is limited. If I stop using a computer, it will sleep anyway by design, either when it reaches either a default time or whatever time I have set? I thought that was inherent in the OS.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions, I will experiment.

I am having the same exact problem, I am connected to a 60Hz Dell Widescreen:

SOCD report detected: (AP watchdog expired)

Last month I ordered a Mac Mini M4 Pro, 64 GB RAM, 14 Cores, 1TB, and everyday I receive that SOCD error, every time it sleeps and recovers. I talked to Apple support and they said to exchange it for a different one, since mine would have been bad device.

Then I exchanged it and this time got more specs with the additional 10Gbit Ethernet. And it happened again. After it goes to sleep, and recovers, it produces this SOCD Error.

How can I know what that Kernel Panic SOCD is referring to?

Maybe Mac Mini Pro M4 are faulty?

That is not correct, you save power when it is asleep, for Mac Mini Pro M4, it does around 1-3 watts. But when the computer is idle, it does 6X more power from 6-15 watts. When you are using under load it does around 20-30 watts.

The Apple Silicon is optimized for background processes even while the Mac is asleep. The system performs maintenance tasks like indexing or updates.

Are Mac M's latest firmware corrupted?

Thanks for reply varjak paw,

Appreciate your comment but there does not seem to be any point if, as you point out, Apple does not read this. I have read most of the stuff from other contributors and it all seems to be the same, disconnect this, disconnect that ...reboot! Reminds me of a time when all I could afford was that 'other' well known brand, but for the past twenty years or so I have been paying for Apple and frankly, I expect better from them.

As an aside, I am Also having a seemingly 'un-fixable' problem trying to get sound interfaces to work with Core Audio. .....just about ready to give up on that too, but that is another story!

best regards, Cptkeys

Hi hcsitas, thanks for your input. Sorry for delay in reply.

Your screenshots of Lock Screen setting look slightly different to mine. I am using OS 15.1.1

I should be able to require a password input after screen saver or sleep. Appreciate your suggestions but I think Apple should do a little better than users having to disable security settings and/or turn the computer on and off all the time. Is that what you meant, or am I misunderstanding you?

best regards
