Why does my Mac mini show lower refresh rates

Base model M4 Mac Mini connected to a 1440p monitor that supports 144Hz. In Windows using the HDMI cable I get the full 144Hz using a web site refresh site. On the Mac when I set the refresh rate to 60/120/144 Hz on 1440p resolution the same website reports 30/60/72 Hz (exactly half).

Is this normal? What is the “native” resolution of the Mac Mini that would achieve the proper refresh rate?
