Your iPad does not utilise PRAM. What are you attempting to achieve?
There are multiple methods to reset an iPad. The specific issue that you are attempting to resolve will determine the process that you need to follow. Perhaps you are locked-out due to an unknown Passcode? Something else?
A simple shut-down and restart is usually all that is necessary to clear temporary cache data from your iPad - if your iPad appears to be operating bellow its expected performance - this being a simple process that I am sure needs no explanation.
Sometimes, if something is obviously amis, a forced restart will clear-up any more significant issues:
Force restart iPad - Apple Support
For what it's worth, being a heavy user of my iPad Pro M1 (this being my computer of choice for most everyday tasks), I routinely restart my iPad at least once a week. While memory management in iPadOS 18 is significantly better than iPadOS 17, my iPad's performance definitely improves following a simple restart.
LotusPilot,
Thank you for letting me know that the newer iPads do not have PRAM in them.
I have been using all manner of Apple devices since they were first introduced to me in college in 1985, but I am not an “under the hood” type of person.
They taught us waaay back then 😂, that it was best practices ( a term not used in those days) to zap the PRAM on your devices on a weekly basis to keep things running smoothly.
Ive been having a hard time with trying to figure out how to do something that doesn’t need to be done. 😂
THANK YOU for bringing this dinosaur 🦕 into the modern world.
I gather that it is no longer necessary to zap the PRAM on my iMac and iPhone as well. ✅
you don't
it's a mac thing with ios devices you have
Force restart iPad - Apple Support (IN)
and
Reset iPad settings to their defaults - Apple Support (IN)
and thats it
