Updating OS on apple watch

I've tried everything to try to update my Apple watch OS software including resetting it, un-pairing, re-pairing, making sure my iphone is updated to the latest OS version, using the apple watch app on my iphone, trying it on the apple watch itself, making sure the Apple watch is fully charged and on a charger, making sure the iphone is connected to the internet, and even calling Apple support--they could not do it either and went through all the same steps. It will chug along for about 2 hours or more and then it says that it cannot do it because it is not connected to the internet (I assume they mean the iphone as after I reset the apple watch, I can't access much of anything on it now) or it goes into a PAUSED mode and then is basically frozen (the update) in the apple watch app on my iphone. Apple support now tells me I will have to send it away for them to look at and if it is a software glitch, they will force the update onto it and mail it back. Won't have watch for about 7 to 14 days, and we are having a mail strike in Canada so it will be longer. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem? What did you do?
