Significant Ping Spikes and Timeouts on Wi-Fi with macOS 15.1 on M2 Pro

Hello Everyone,

I am encountering severe Wi-Fi issues on my M2 Pro MacBook running macOS 15.1. When pinging 192.168.1.1, I consistently experience high ping spikes (~230ms average) and frequent timeouts. This problem seems to have started after upgrading to macOS 15.1 (but not 100% sure), as I did not encounter such issues on macOS 14 (With same RSSI and Noise).

Here are some observations and troubleshooting steps I've done:

  • I also have an M1 Max MacBook located physically near the M2 Pro, connected to the same Wi-Fi-6 network (channel 44, as recommended). It shows stable ping results (~3ms average, no timeouts).
  • On 100MBPS Fiber network, I barely get more than 20MBPS. DNS requests also slow, have to wait a minute to start speed test.
  • Confirmed no background network activity (0KB up/down in network stats) during tests. (Even with minimal or no network activity, the spikes and timeouts persist.)
  • Tested with awdl0 interface inactive, and the issue still persists.
  • Executed the following command to reset network configurations, flush caches, and restart services:

sudo sh -c "networksetup -detectnewhardware; sleep 1; networksetup -setairportpower Wi-Fi off; sleep 1; networksetup -setnetworkserviceenabled Wi-Fi off; sleep 1; route flush; dscacheutil -flushcache; killall -HUP mDNSResponder; ipconfig set en0 BOOTP; ipconfig set en0 DHCP; networksetup -setairportpower Wi-Fi on; sleep 1; networksetup -setnetworkserviceenabled Wi-Fi on"
  • Unfortunately, this works (I think) for a slight time, and the issue persists again.
  • When I connect via an Ethernet cable, the issue disappears entirely, with a stable ~1ms average ping and no timeouts. I able to get 100MBPS.

I have also read the Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points doc. My setup mostly fulfills this.

Given these findings, it appears to be an issue with the Wi-Fi driver or configuration on macOS 15.1 or the M2 Pro itself (hardware error?).

Could you please provide guidance on how to resolve it?

Thank you for your assistance!
