‘Passwords App’ not changing to new password?

When the new Passwords App came out a few IOS updates ago for both iphone and ipad, one of my apps had i weak password and they suggested changing it. I did and the new password worked right away… HOWEVER…

the new Passwords App still showed my old password on its screen. Nothing i did would get rid of the old password in the new Passwords app… until an Apple Support advisor suggested I go into the Passwords App, find the app that was not showing the changed password and click on it, and then press the ‘edit’ button in the top right corner. Doing this allowed me to simply take my finger and place the cursor on the ‘old password’, erase it with the backstroke key, and then type in the new password.

Now the new and correct password is showing and i can get rid of the piece of paper that i scribbled my new password on. So simple a solution…hope this helps some others.

Yes you’d have thought Apple would have made this change of passwords automatic in the Passwords app update. Seems they forgot it.

So whenever I change to a new difficult password, I always ‘copy’ it and then edit the corresponding password and then ‘paste’ into to the appropriate password field

within the Passwords App. Hope this helps.

This is much worse than people realize once your situation "triggers" the problem.

A few users who claim "this is not happening" to themselves is part of the problem.

You must stop using Apple's password invention if you have any complexity in your needs.

If you have something like 1Password or the other good ones, DO NOT introduce what is basically a virus into YOUR ecosystem of passwords. You could lose all passwords, access to banking -

•••Trigger? Simply changing a password and assuming Apple prepared for that. NO.

•••You will know it's not working but... you will become disconnected and a security risk to your banks because we always get THREE attempts, and this BUG/FAILURE leaves you with 1 chance if you assume you know your password. Watch your online life crash in an endless loop of authentication steps, failures you don't understand, and being blocked,=.

•••There is also a glaring arrogance shown by Apples "Nanny-state" attitudes. "Our customers are not to be trusted with information they will screw up every time so we must block and discourage access" SEE: THE LIBRARY? really I hate them every time that comes up. The "passwords app" has ZERO "show in app" (never worked), or "show in finder" its unforgiveable. USER MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET DIRECTLY TO THEIR PASSWORDS because they are dumb.

Workaround: completely DELETE the entire entry, not the password. WIPE IT OUT.

Then, start over fresh as if the new password was your first ebtry.

You lose everything.

Worst? You cannot fully shut down the look alike POPUP box from Apple so you will be trapped in starting to use it over ad over and over again. EVEN IF YOU TURNED IT OFF.

Google Passwords? Better, but if you use 1password, you are unknowingly using them BOTH, becaue GOOGLE won't let you escape from the program either. Try turning it off - and not falling into any of their simple traps.

They probably made the change because the previous method was very confusing to many people. It's important to maintain the distinction between "I don't like this" and "This is objectively bad." Your preferences are just that, preferences. What I can tell you after spending a lot of time reading and answering questions here is that having the passwords in Settings and calling it in other places "Keychain" was confusing to people.

Personally, I haven't noticed any difference. Things still autopopulate.

It also makes me wonder if Apples “Security and Privacy” are nothing but a catch phrase when in fact it’s just another company stealing peoples private information. I really don’t trust any of these companies anymore.

This seems to be a non sequitur. How does changing the method of accessing passwords on your phone (same passwords, same phone, same Apple Account) mean that Apple is "stealing peoples private information?" From a security perspective, nothing has changed.

This would be ok but this app doesn’t log a new app or websites for you to then go in edit the password. Also even if the app or website is already logged it still doesn’t save the password when it says it does and even putting in the old password manually into the site doesn’t work, I’ve been locked out of at least two websites now. Apple you need to sort this, nobody trusts this new password app and this is now becoming a security issue.

Yes this is a solution BUT not the right one. The old way remembered your password in the keychain and now it doesn't and when you're using a "Strong Password" as they suggest and it doesn't save, well that's not good. This has now happened to me on multiple occasions and forces me to use the can't remember password to reset on the sight and that is downright inconvenient.

Just when you think Apple is making a step forward they take two steps backward. Keychain worked really well at updating passwords then some bright programmer comes along and screws it all up. I would like to know why this change was made because it’s NOT user friendly. It also makes me wonder if Apples “Security and Privacy” are nothing but a catch phrase when in fact it’s just another company stealing peoples private information. I really don’t trust any of these companies anymore.
