Menu "Open Recent" is empty

Hey everyone,

I just updated my 2021 iMac M1 to Sonoma 14.7.1 (23H222) so I could use the new features in Logic 11.1.

Everything seems fine, except for the "recent files" menu.

This issue affects all apps, and if I click on an empty space, I get this error:

I tried creating a new user, and the problem disappeared, but... the issue is that my “original” user has many passwords, program settings, etc. and it would take me forever to restore everything.

Is there a way to fix this without "leaving" my original user?

P.S. The settings for the number of recent files are set to default.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Davide

Yeah, I had the same slowdowns too, 😢 even with Affinity and other apps!

I only created the new user to check if something was wrong with the user account or the system.

Having to reconstruct all the preferences would have been crazy….. 😱

So, I decided to upgrade to Sequoia... and everything went back to working great! 👍

Just do a backup and update, and you should be good to go!

It worked for me.

I have exactly the same issue. I haven't tried creating new user yet - from your comment it dosn't sound like a good idea!

Can you tell me if you also have issues with documents in Quicktime, Numbers, Pages and Keynote taking a very long time to open please? This also happened to me at the same time. Thanks. I would hope that there is a cache or other kind of preferences file somewhere that can be deleted to reset and fix this.

Following up on suggestion elsewhere, creating a new user on your Mac seems to get the recents behaviour and fast loading of documens back to normal. But only whilst you are logged in as the new user. So it's not the OS, but how it's interacting with your main user profile. Is there any way to reset a main profile without completely losing all your settings and associated data/prefs/passwords etc.?

Small update - I know have this logged with Apple Tech Support. They tried one possible solution (Settings/Control Centre/Recent documents, applications and servers? change to 15 then close Setting and reboot the Mac) but this did not work. So they are escalating to the engineering team and have scheduled a callback at 10am UK time on Tuesday to give me an update or a solution.
