Unable to Stream Videos on Optus Sport website using Safari

Ever since I upgraded to MacOs Sequoia 15.1 and Safari 18.1, I am unable to stream Highlight videos on Optus Sport website (Australia). I have a Bit Defender anti-virus program but VPN not used. I suspect some settings in Safari is preventing me from doing that as I can stream the same Highlight videos on Google Chrome. Anyone else have that issue?

Hi Mitch and anyone else landing on this topic,

It is fixed. I can stream Optus Sport on Safari now. Optus actually called me today and told me that a patch was installed on the Optus website which resolved the issue. I have had problems with Optus before but this recent episode impressed me. I actually spoke with humans, did not have to repeat my story and someone actually called me to tell me how the issue was fixed. Long may this continue.

The humans on this site are awaiting the result of uninstalling "Bitdefender".

Add whatever VPN you're using as well. Uninstall it. Safari is standards-based and will work on every website that adheres to those standards.

As for Apple Support, so far nothing.

As far as Apple Support, this site is not that, so I do not understand what you meant by that statement. Did you contact them? "Nothing" makes no sense to me. At the very least Apple will refer you to If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac - Apple Support. Try that.

Finally, someone from Optus Sports contacted me by phone yesterday. She is human (what a relief!) and based in the same city as I. Being in the same country is important for this issue because Optus Sports is Australia-based and the license to stream is country-specific. They will not be able to trouble-shoot if they are located outside of Australia. She understood everything I said and did not read off a script. She did not ask me to refer to an online FAQ nor asked me if I had tried restarting the computer. She said she will escalate this issue. This is absolutely so refreshing. As for Apple Support, so far nothing.
