Can't access files that I have transferred over from Windows PC

I have just transferred all the documents from my Windows PC but when I try to access them by going to Go>Computer>Macintosh HD>Users and click onto the user folder where I am told that I can't open any folders within it because The folder “Desktop” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.

I had already set up my MacBook around 2 weeks ago initially and I have now gotten the chance to transfer the files I need from my PC.

What do I need to do? Thanks.

Are you not simply navigating to the desktop by clicking on the actual desktop? Or, through the left menu in finder? I suspect that you're trying to access a different user account and not the one you're logged into.

Yes that is right, whilst transferring over the information it created a new account on my mac where the files are kept and protected. How to do access them on the account I made when I originally set up the Mac?

Use the account that was used for the transfer.

I would rather use the account I created previously as I have already made a lot of customisation to it. I have tried to change the access on “get info” but it still hasn’t worked.
