What new 30" display will work with my '09 MacPro on os10.6.8?
I keep a big MacPro running this old os to use Adobe CS6, which I own. These are the last legacy apps before their Creative Cloud subscription model and won't work beyond os10.6.8, a strong incentive to keep this venerable old work station going.
The 30" Cinema HD Display (aluminum frame) keeps going black. It was awesome for years before this started happening. I figured out that unplugging/replugging the racetrack-shaped plug from the display into the adapter brick (Apple HD Display 150W Power Adapter) resets it and it comes back on. After doing this 100's of times (toward the end - 5,6,7 times/day), eventually that also stopped working. So I replaced the adapter with used ones from eBay. Over the last 8 years, I've bought five replacement adapters - at $75 + each, and they seem to fix the problem, but they only last months and it starts again.
I’d love to fix this problem but I’ve asked everywhere I can think of and noone has helped - even though the display itself (which cost over $2K new) apparently works fine. . It’s just this adapter that seems to be the issue - not the graphics card, zapping the PRAM, plugging the cord in upside down… nada. So I’m resigned to replacing the display if possible.
In the last 10 years I developed 100's of hi-res multimedia projects in CS6 that require a display capable of 2560x1600 like this 30” Cinema Display can. (The Director app I use has been obsolete for a decade).
So I need a big display— and this old OS— to continue to create and enjoy them - just for myself. I’m a legacy Mac user but not super knowledgeable about what it takes to match up new monitors to vintage Macs on old OS’s. Can you help?
