Iphone consumes more battery with Apple intelligence???

After updating iOS 18.1 on my iPhone 15 Pro, later on I configured, Apple Intelligence. I feel Apple Intelligence consumes more battery health and battery drain. Very quickly. Does anyone else feel the same?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18

Before I updated ( yesterday ) and turned on the Apple intelligence my phone would last for about a day and a half with normal usage without charging Since yesterday and today not even before 12pm my phone is already at 68 percent on low power mode since 7am, it’s dying not even twice as fast but 4x as fast as it was before turning on the feature.

I don’t understand the drastic change and because of battery life alone it’s probably a feature I won’t continue to be using.

Me too.. do not like the battery consumption of apple intelligence! And iPhone can't even quantify it

All i know is that the battery monitoring on my iphone 15promax was running at about 7 hours of screen on time using about 90% of the battery and i was ending the day with 10-20% battery remaining before the Apple intelligent stuff.. then when i enabled it, i lost an hour of screen time for 90% battery and i was consistently ending the day when 3% battery.

Then i turned the features all off and my battery consumption went right back to where it was before updates to ios 18.1

I haven't noticed it, but would expect that to be the case. Anytime your phone is doing more work it will be consuming more battery and Apple Intelligence does put more demand on your phone resources which is why it is restricted to only the faster devices with more RAM. Battery Health is tied to charging cycles, so if you are charging your device more then of course your battery health will go down quicker. Apple Intelligence is doing on device processing for security/privacy instead of sending it off to a third party server where your info could be at risk.

Battery degradation in regard to overall health is too early to determine, especially if using beta software and I’ll leave it at that.

But, yes, Apple Intelligence is all done locally (unless you subscribed to ChatGPT which consumes more and may compromise your data), and consumes extreme battery charge is used a lot.

But the bottom line is what do you want, ultimate daily battery capacity, smart Siri, and all the other Apple Intelligence. However, advanced capabilities come at a cost and with Apple Intelligence, daily battery capacity will be one casualty.

Not all Apple Intelligence activity is performed locally on-device. Where requests are too complex for on-device processing, requests are securely handed-off to Apple's more complex [data-centre] language models.

For iPad/iPhone, you can review hand-off request data from the transparency logs:

I enabled Apple Intelligence for a week after updating my 16Pro to iOS18.2 and noticed significant battery usage even though I was not actively using Apple Intelligence. I usually charge my phone to 85% in the mornings and it would still have plenty of battery (atleast 50%) available by evening. After enabling Apple Intelligence the phone would at 20% by early afternoon. I had to disable Apple Intelligence until Apple makes it less battery intensive.
