Getting “try passcode again” pop up while opening apps on my iPhone 13 Pro Max

I use safari for email, so I passcode-protect it to make it more secure. So whenever I open the app I am prompted for my passcode.

Since upgrading to iOS 18.1, when I open the app, I now get a message “try passcode again”, which I then have to clear before being prompted for my passcode. This happens if I try passcode protecting other apps too.

I’ve tried: removing the passcode requirement and reapplying it; closing the app completely and re-opening; and restarting the phone. Nothing helped.

I know it’s not exactly the end of the world, but it is a pain - any ideas? Thanks.
