How to import music from a CD on a windows PC into Apple Music/iPhone WITHOUT an apple music subscription

How to import music from a CD on a windows PC into Apple Music/iPhone WITHOUT an apple music subscription. Am unable to sync all the old music that I have on a CD and have it show in in my iPhone library. I do NOT want to repurchase all the music again as a digital version instead.

How do i transfer my own music between iPad and iPhone? I mean MY OWN Music, ripped from CDs copied to the iPad from a Windows box using the iTunes program - which by the way was toxic to use! Now I want to put that music on my iPhone but cannot find any way of doing it other than using iTunes from my Windows PC again. Since it is on the data store of one Apple device it ought to be possible to transfer the files directly between the two devices. But I am assuming it is not, as I did not purchase the music from Apple. <rant> As an IT pro accustomed to Unix and Windows systems, I do find the artificial usability barriers put up by Apple to be frustrating and commercially cynical</rant> Any help/info appreciated.
