After updating iPad to iOS 17.7.1 Safari has slowed

Yesterday installed the latest update for iPad iOS 17. Running an iPad Pro 12.5 inch 2 generation (too old to upgrade to 18). Ever since then Safari has slowed to a crawl and is unusable. However, Chrome and Opera are working fine. Anyone else have this issue and suggest a fix as I prefer to use Safari.
