I have a few spreadsheets that I edit frequently. Until recently they would always be in the list in File > Open Recent.
Recently this menu has been showing "Clear menu" and nothing else - i.e. it's not showing my recent spreadsheets, and it's saying "Clear menu" when it's not showing any sheets to clear...
My Mac is running the latest version of macOS (15.0.1) and Numbers (version 14.2 (7041.0.109))

I have the same problem since MacOS 15.0.1.
Every day the recent documents list seems to empty itself. The problem is not only with Numbers, but also with Pages and Keynote.

Yes, the is what I am saying. For both Keynote and Pages, I navigated to a document, opened it, made a change, and closed the document and the program. Re-opened the program, and the "Open Recent" was still empty. I am working with macOS 15.0.1 and Keynote/Pages 14.2
This is annoying bug that needs to be fixed. "Open Recent" has always worked flawlessly in Numbers and Pages until recently. It is not sufficient to tell users to "Try navigating to the documents and opening them". Of course that works, but it does not restore the "Open Recent" function.
Thanks. That is the one 'trick' that I failed to do. Now, after a restart it seems to be working. Bugs like this are annoying to track down what's going on. But at least it now seems to be working just fine.

That's good news! It is amazing how many mysterious problems disappear after a restart. Always remember to keep that in your troubleshooting toolbox.

I recently upgraded from MacOS 13 to 14 and have the same problem, so might not be a problem with MacOS but with the apps. Also in Logic Pro there are no more Recents. Now we have December - I cannot believe Apple needs so much time to address such a simple problem that's affecting so many applications.
Try navigating to the documents and opening them. They should then reappear in the Open Recent menu.

You're saying that on your machine when you navigate to the documents and reopen them that they still don't reappear in Open Recent?

Yes. I just repeated the process with different files. I navigated to the document and opened the app (Keynote & Pages) with the "Open with.." option. "Open Recent" still blank.
Have you tried restarting your Mac and repeating?

sure! That is the First Step if funktions or processes dont work correctly.
that must be a bug of the last update.
In Numbers for Mac "File > Open Recent" is empty
