WiFi calling issue with OnStar after upgrading to iOS 18/18.0.1

Since ios upgrade to 18/18.0.1 I cannot wifi call on OnStar. I have unlimited wifi service on OnStar. I can, however, wifi call from my home network. I'm on Version. I have talked to all companies involved and the only connection to my problem is the upgrade to 18. Please advise.

I visited with Apple tech support again and they worked with me diligently for 2 days. Nothing helped. My awesome specialist said that WiFi calling is working if I could talk when cellular data was off. I can make calls with cellular data turned off but not in the known low coverage areas. However, I really don’t believe that since I can WiFi call in airplane mode from other WiFi networks and could with OnStar WiFi before the iOS upgrade to 18.

Thank you for your support lobsterghost1 and razmee209! I'm not trying to be rude to anyone. I'm asking anyone, you included, to please understand if it's not Apple/iOS/iPhone upgrade to 18 then why can my wife still make wifi calls from my OnStar connection with her iOS 17...not upgraded iPhone? I have been down the road of contacting support from all providers including GM. So, to be clear, I have contacted on numerous occasions Apple, Verizon, OnStar and GM about this issue. None of them, after sometimes more than an hour on the phone, have any explanations for this issue.

I am hopeful this question will get to someone that has experienced the issue and found a resolution. So far, it appears the issue is not affecting enough people to be of concern with these providers. And maybe, after more and more upgrades to iOS 18 occur, I will get a resolution.

And, lobsterghost1, next time I visit with GM I will ask them about the API's and their potential need to update. Thanks all for your support!

My wife's iPhone hasn't been upgraded to 18 and she can still make wifi calls from my OnStar wifi and the iPhone is in airplane mode. This proves it's an Apple/iOS problem and you still maintain wifi calling isn't a feature of Apple? If wifi calling isn't a feature of Apple/iOS then why can we wifi call from our iPhones in the first place?

Wifi calling is your phone carriers feature, not an apple or ios issue. Contact Verizon and escalate the issue with them.

It’s obvious I’m receiving no Apple support!

You're right. You aren't speaking with Apple here. This is a user to user only forum, not Apple Support. razmee209, is a user, just like you are user, so being rude is just not necessary. He was giving you the right answers.

You've determined Wifi calling works on your phone. So it's not an iPhone issue. And Wifi calling is a carrier provided feature, so your carrier likely isn't causing the issue. OnStar appears to be the issue, since iOS 18 was released and that is not unusual. Apple can't test features in every car on the planet. But the car manufacturers receive API's (Application Protocol Interfaces) from Apple and it's up to the car manufacturers, if necessary to roll out updates to their car systems when needed.

So, elevate this with your car manufacturer and maybe be nicer to a user who took their personal time to even try to help you.

I'm having the exact same problem.

I went to my GMC dealership today - there was an audio system recall that took 2 hours that I was hoping would fix the issue. It didn't. I can't figure out if the issue is with IOS 18 on my phone, apple CarPlay, or OnStar.

Bunch of other posts with others having issues with the IOS18 upgrade and wifi calling.

Hopefully somebody is able to locate where the bug exists.

I assumed eventually somebody else would show up with this problem. I know it has to do with the iOS 18 upgrade. Each company (Apple, OnStar, GM and Verizon) involved is very supportive however, no one seems to be able to figure out the problem. I can take my wife’s phone iOS 17.6.1 and Wi-Fi call from my truck. If you find a solution, please update here and I will do the same.
