iPhone keeps popping up with old Apple ID when I use App Store

I have changed my Apple ID on my iPhone and when I go to update an App from the App Store it auto-fills with the old Apple ID and I am unable to change it.

There have been many threads on this for many years, and I had tried most suggestions outside of wiping out the whole phone.

I stumbled across a way around this. I logged out of the iPhone with my new AppleID, in this way there was no Apple ID associated to the phone. Went back into the App Store to update the app and it prompted for my Apple ID / Password. I was able to use the new Apple ID.
