Photos app stretching on Macbook

When I drag a folder of photos into the photos app, to import them, the window for photos stretches way beyond the physical size of the screen. I have to drag the screen across to be able to select the photos and press import. Once the photos are being imported then I can resize the screen back to normal. This is very frustrating and I can't find anywhere how to make it stop, please help!
