New Notes sections expand on their own accord

Hi community,

I've just upgraded to Sequoia (15.0.1 (24A348)), and one of the first things that caught my eye was the ability to collapse sections in the Notes app. For me, this is a great new feature which I immediately started using.

Unfortunately...it doesn't work.

Once I've collapsed the sections I don't need to worry about for a while, within, say, a minute they've all expanded again. All of them. I have searched and found one post reporting the same problem but he/she says it's due to spelling errors in those sections.

That shouldn't make a difference, however, even with no spelling errors my sections are still automatically expanding without (obvious) reason.

Anyone else having the same problem? Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Mark.

I have the same problem markimedes does. Love that content can be collapsed and so better organized, but it's super frustrating that the collapsed sections expand on their own without any reason. I'm not even using Apple Notes then I'll notice all the collapsed sections opening again. And this problem is not tied to spelling errors; even if it were, that would not make any sense. Please someone fix this!

So, very strangely, mine seems to have sorted itself out. Unfortunately I have no idea what I may have done to cause it to start behaving. I regularly shut down my laptop at the end of the day and it's the last few days I've noticed my sections staying collapsed, so whether it's one of those shutdowns that's finally done something I've no idea. I've not updated to 15.1 yet but will do soon.

Sorry I can't be of more help, MightyPhilly, but will come back here if I think of anything (or 15.1 brings the issue back LOL).

Made the updates and restarted my computer, and frustratingly, the problem persists. Idk if it's bc I use Notes so much or too much, but that shouldn't matter, right?

The collapsable functionality would be a game changer IF IT WORKED. They expand on their own, when I scroll up, and when I'm working within a different subhead. Why???

Can someone super tech smart fix this?

Do you use Notes on your phone, too?

I didn't need to do this on this occasion, but in the past I have had syncing issues between my iPhone and my MacBook. To solve it I've gone into my iCloud settings on the iPhone and switched off Notes. Always a good idea to then reboot the iPhone before switching Notes back on in the iCloud settings.

Like I say, I'm not saying it will fix it, but if you do use Notes across devices I'd say it's worth a try. In fact, you could even turn Notes sync off on the iPhone and then go to Notes on your Mac and see if the unwanted behaviour persists - that would then be a definite 'yes' or 'no' as to whether it's iCloud syncing that's the culprit.

markimedes >>I have searched and found one post reporting the same problem but he/she says it's due to spelling errors in those sections.<<

That was probably me (I'm a he).

And I'm still having same problems with some Note files and still can't figure out what's causing it.

I find the spelling seems hit and miss, as sometimes it shows spelling mistakes and other times it's doesn't - It's frustrating.

Maybe it's all the pictures, Web links, emoji's (or formulas $4,562.25+98.48=$4,660.73 <- which also work in this message Community).

But can't be as I see no correlation of the above unless I'm missing something.

I sync between Mac mini m1, iPad pro m4 and iphone 13, so maybe there's a sync problem there?

So from my experience, sync issues (and I have had a couple over the years) can usually be solved by turning off iCloud notes on the affected devices, rebooting those devices and then turning the iCloud sync back on.

For a complete "reset" I'd probably do this on ALL devices: so turn iCloud Notes off on each device, leaving the most up-to-date device until last (and you can log into your iCloud in a browser to check that the cloud version of your notes is totally up to date). Reboot all devices, and then turn iCloud Notes back on one device at a time, letting each device completely sync before moving on to the next one.
