HomePod's Siri lacks intelligence and redirects to iPhone

I’m a millennial, that means my iPhone is always in my hands. Sometimes when I’m in the same room as my HomePod I ask Siri a question, like I used to ask Alexa, hoping for a quick intelligent answer, and I get “I’ve found some answers for you if you ask again from your iPhone.” My iPhone is in my hands. If I wanted to search for the answers myself I would have typed instead of asking HomePod out loud… and so I ask again, aside from a music speaker, what is the point of HomePod if Siri has no intelligence and just points back to the phone?

Is there a way to change/customize the wake work on the HomePod so it just doesn’t respond preempting my iPhone?
