Despite selecting ‘delete all future events’, after a couple of seconds, they all reappear. I have tried this several times now. The same thing happens when I delete each event separately. I have switched iCloud calendar on and off to see if that helps but to no avail. Any help would be great :)

See if you can edit the event to set an end date for the recurring event.
Eg: If the end date is set to never, deleting events can not work.
