Struggling with Siri in iOS 18.0.1 on iPhone 16 Pro

I’m really struggling with Siri in iOS 18.0.1 on iPhone 16 Pro.

When I say “Siri” or “Hey Siri” sometimes it activates, sometimes it doesn’t.

If it does activate, I’ll ask it something - usually about setting a scene for my smart lighting - and it will either hear me but just ignore me and deactivate or perform the command with a delay of about 20 seconds.

Last night, it was in Night Stand mode when I said “Goodnight” to it which turns everything off and it just kept saying the word “Goodnight” back to me on an infinite loop until I intervened.

I’ve rebooted the phone and toggled Siri on and off but no luck. Its irritating me because I thought Siri was supposed to be getting better, not worse!

I am having the exact same experience on my iPhone 16 pro max. I use this daily to set reminders or various other tasks. Even holding down the side button to bring Siri up, if I hit the microphone to use voice to text a command, it often misses the first word or two.

I did perform the Siri voice recognition walk through again just to make sure but same issue. I even noticed when going through that exercise, the little Siri “glowy bubble” doesn’t start moving or acting like it’s hearing me until I am completely done saying the message. Before 18.01 it would move WHILE I was reading the on screen commands.

My phone is now working!

So after looking at the suggestions for a fix, I discovered that a soft reset worked perfectly for me. Suddenly Siri is working and there's no dictation lag. I'm no longer grumpy with my phone. I strongly recommend this for everyone suffering lag on their 16 Pro Max (or possibly other models,) as this was a lifesaver for me.

Here's the simple process:

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume up button
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume down button
  3. Immediately press and hold the Side button until the screen goes black…keep holding until you see the Apple logo (will take quite a few seconds.)

Done! This is all it took to get my phone working great. I hope it works for you, too.

I'm having issues with Siri as well. Siri is slow to respond and repeats the "Hey Siri" part twice. For example when I say "Hey Siri lock my front door", nothing happens for about 2 - 3 seconds, then the swirly Siri thing shows up, but does nothing. Another 2-3 seconds then it shows my query but repeats the "Hey Siri" part. So it looks like "Hey Siri Hey Siri lock my front door".

Sometimes holding the sleep button to enable Siri also takes a while for the Siri swirl to appear.

I submitted feedback with apple.com/feedback. We'll see what happens.

I can relate, it was SO clean and responsive right when I got it, just as you described. Now everytime I use text to speech I don’t think it works at first. Give it 5 seconds and it will show up, but neither my wife (16PM) nor I (16P) can get siri to respond to save our life. Both have siri set up, too. Hoping for a resolution soon

Thanks, I think this worked for me. I need to give it a day or two before I'll know for sure, but Siri was probably responding less than 25% after the 18.0.1 update. I've tried it a few times since your recommendation and I'm back in business!
