Changing font & font color on text in photos

When adding a text to a photo, I am unable to change the font and font color. When attempting to do so by tapping the color circle to the right the menu appears then disappears instantly. I don’t want the black or that font.

Aha! We're doing different things!

I've found how not to get the format menu: I start by tapping Edit, Markup, and I hit plus (+) to get this:

I choose "Add Text," and I get a little menu and the word "Text" in the middle of the picture:

I choose Aa, and the Text Format menu comes up:

I tap red, then I delete "Text" and type Balloon. Looks good, but I really wanted bold. So I select "Balloon" and get this:

and "Format" gets me back to the Format menu.

This is a complete history of my Markup Text experience. I never got a keyboard and format menu at the same time.

My iPadOS is 18.0, not yet 18.0.1

And wow! That took a bit of work…

Nice card!

I can't reproduce this. I select the text; I have the same format window; I touch the color circle--- and I get a color matrix where I can choose the new color, and it works. What could be different?

How's your phone's memory? When I go to Settings>General>iPhone Storage, mine says "77.6 GB of 128 GB used." What does yours say?

I don't know if this is important, but in Settings>Apps>Photos is iCloud Photos turned on? Are you using "Optimize iPhone Storage" with Photos?
