Splitting a single account into two

My wife and I share and apple account with two phones and an unused mac. Recently we started receiving each other's voice mails. I now understand that I need to create a new account for one of us and use family sharing. How do I separate my phone from hers on the current account and then add me to family sharing?

Shared iPhone Identity My iPhone and my wife's are somehow linked via Apple IDs and I cannot seem to separate them. When I change her to another Apple ID, it changes mine also. In Family Sharing it treats us like we were one phone. I tried to sign her in with a new Apple ID and it signed my own phone in with that ID also. Sharing My iPad With My Wife OK. We have 2 iPads. Both are mine…my ID, iCloud email, my settings, etc. Clones of each other. LOTS of stuff is done with my iPad regarding apps to stuff like Alexa, SmartThings, etc. So I wanted 2 iPads in case one malfunctioned. Now, I want to set one up to be my wife’s so she can use it with her ID, email (not just iCloud, but Outlook, etc.), settings, bookmarks, etc. I tried adding her ICloud ID, sign mine out, but it, STILL, was showing my email, my Facebook posts, etc. HOW can I, TOTALLY, make 1 of the IPads hers without my info showing? Does family sharing accomplish this? I thought by adding her ID and iCloud address, and me signing out, the settings would be personalized to her. ANYONE’S help would be greatly appreciated as it’s CONFUSING. Thanks.
