Subscribing to calendars

On my Mac, I have the option to choose how frequently my subscribed calendar will refresh, but that isn't an option on my iPhone and iPad. Will the calendar on my iPhone/iPad be refreshed, and if so, how often?


Also, the Apple website states the following: Before you can see a calendar subscription on all your devices, subscribe to the calendar on your Mac first. If you subscribe to the calendar on your iOS device, iCloud won't update it to your other devices.

What do they mean by this because my calendar to which I am subscribed via my iPhone also appears on my Mac?
