iPhone hotspot rejects android connection.

iPhone 15 Pro Max. Need to use mobile hotspot when out of town. Windows 10 laptop connects only after I install iTunes on the laptop. iPhone repeatedly refuses to provide an IP address for Android tablet. Tablet is Android ver 13, purchased June 2024. Probably a dozen attempts to get the Android to connect to the iPhone for internet access. Hotspot on, WiFi on, Bluetooth off. Maximize Compatability turned on. Attempt to connect the Android tablet to the iPhone's hotspot. Little connection icon appears on the status bar on the iPhone. Android says: "obtaining ip address", at which point that doesn't happen. Android disconnects. Repeat connection attempt. Same result. Android connects to iPhone, but iPhone refuses to provide an IP address for the Android.

It should be noted here that the laptop had the exact same issue connecting to the phone, but installing iTunes on the laptop enabled the connection to be completed on the laptop and now that works flawlessly. I would do the same for the tablet and just move on in life, but there is no available app for the Android for this to happen and I need the Android to connect to the phone.

This also is an issue that has been on this forum for at least three years now with no published resolution to the problem.

All the switches are turned on. Maximize Compatibility on. Family sharing, etc.

In response to your comment I tested the connection with another Android device and it connects just fine. So the problem appears to be the tablet, not the phone. I'll try and update the thing, but it's a cheapo and I may be stuck with that issue on this particular device. Thank you for your time. Now at least I can be positive of where the problem is located.

Do you use a VPN on either the iPhone or Android tablet? If you do, VPN's at least on iPhone often cause Wifi issues. I don't know enough about Android to know if using a VPN on an Android can cause the same issues. But if you do use a VPN on your iPhone, I'd not only turn it off, but delete the VPN profile completely from your iPhone.

If the Android tablet can't connect, that would be a question you should ask of the manufacturer of the tablet. It doesn't appear to be an iPhone issue as you admit other devices can connect to the iPhone hotspot. However, by chance does the iPhone use a VPN? That could certainly cause such an issue as VPN is completely unnecessary on iPhone.

I'll add to this discussion that the Android will connect just fine to anything else that I try. Windows 10 WiFi hotspot, no problem. An ethernet based WiFi extender that I have out in the workshop, no problem. So now I'm not sure which device is actually the culprit. What happens is the error occurs where the IP address assignment fails and I don't know if that a problem with the iPhone, or the Android's problem. My little Android Amazon music player connects to the iPhone just fine and has internet access via the iPhone's hotspot. The tablet just gets bumped off for whatever reason from the iPhone, even with Maximize Compatability turned on.

No VPN has ever been installed on any device that I own, both past and present. What I will say is that this particular tablet is an ultra-cheapo that I purchased from TEMU to be used as a Kindle tablet. Cost was only $50.00 and the hardware cannot play music or video without stuttering. It's only good for email, web browsing, email, etc that doesn't require a lot of computing power. It connects just fine to everything but my iPhone, and everything else I own connects without any issues to the iPhone, including an Android based Louran music player that is similer to an old iPod. That thing connects to everything, including the iPhone without any hesitation.

It's just this *bleeping* tablet that won't connect to the iPhone and there's one situation in my life where I kind of need that ability for convenience's sake and it's just not working. I haven't found a way to update the tablet and I'm kind of a Joe Sixpack when it comes to these things. Definately not a programmer here, LOL. Once again, thank you for your help. If I find the solution, I will most definately post it here.
