How to reset my password as I forgot security key and password of Apple Account?

Is it possible to somehow reset my password if my stupid butt forgot the long freakin security key and password? I know there is someone that is tech savvy enough to plug my phone into a competitor/laptop type in a few commands (bc he’s smarter than Apple) and bam

my phone is fixed.

there’s someone out there that can do that. lol

I just have to find that person bc they don’t advertise themselves. 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

but other than that way…

seriously, like is it possible?

A "security key" is a physical item, so I am not sure how you forgot it. Did you mean you lost it?

Do you instead mean a recovery key? The information below is based on Apple's support article: Set up a recovery key for your Apple Account - Apple Support with quoted excerpts. Each section outlines the different situations and the strategies that may relate to use of a recovery key. If you are not familiar with trusted devices and numbers, see this support article —> Two-factor authentication for Apple Account - Apple Support

- If you still have access to your Apple ID and password but have lost your recovery key:

"You can generate a new recovery key from Settings or System Preferences on a trusted device." Refer to the steps in Set up a recovery key for your Apple Account - Apple Support about how to do this on different types of equipment (Apple equipment only).

- If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, have lost your recovery key, but still have access to a trusted device.

"you can try to regain access using your trusted device protected by a passcode." The process is outlined in this support article: If you forgot your Apple Account password - Apple Support This does not involve using a recovery key.

- If you have a forgotten password and you do not have access to a trusted device:

"you can use your recovery key, a trusted phone number, and an Apple device to reset your password."

- If you have lost your recovery key and have lost access to both your account and trusted items:

A recovery key is designed as an alternative to Account Recovery ( How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple Account password - Apple Support ) which is where Apple helps you regain access to your account. However, "when you generate a recovery key, you can't use account recovery." You can try to contact Apple (see: Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support ), but to me the previous statement implies that setting up a recovery key excludes Apple from being able to do anything. Apple says: "Using a recovery key is more secure, but it means that you’re responsible for maintaining access to your trusted devices and your recovery key. If you lose both of these items, you could be locked out of your account permanently."

I still think you mean a recovery key.

I quote from About Security Keys for Apple Account - Apple Support

- “A security key is a small external device that looks like a thumb drive or tag, which can be used for verification when signing in to your Apple Account using two-factor authentication.”

A 28 digit code is a recovery key and I have posted about your options with that.

I do apologize Sir. I went and double checked and the 28 digit impossible to remember key is the recovery key.

That is what I am referring to. I do not have access to it… or the password. I have forgotten my password and I thought I took a screenshot of the Recovery key but it seems I did not.

I had to get a new phone, create a new Apple ID, and try to manually transfer things to the new phone.

I have everything on the other phone… from the birth of my daughter to the deployment of my husband to the death of my father.. EVERYTHING.

now when I called Apple. The representative said they “are not allowed to” do that which means there is a way and it is possible.

I just have to find someone who is willing to help.

I'm afraid the even if somebody here did know a way other than having a supercomputer try every single 28 digit permutation that they could not tell you since it would likely be removed as a security violation. Nobody here works for Apple but it is generally accepted that it is not so much a matter of Apple not being allowed to but unable to. If you select to use a recovery key only the hash can be used to unlock the account.
