How to fix spreadsheets frozen and grayed out on Numbers?

Have you tried restarting your Mac?

Also, make sure you are not in print mode (typically reached after File > Print or command-p, where you can see part of the document but it seems to frozen because you can't edit cells). If you are, click the 'Done' button at lower right.
