Apple CarPlay Not Working in iOS 18.0

I had this same issue and have been trying to figure it out for a little over a week now. I was able to finally get mine fixed by turning off my ExpressVPN prior to plugging in the cable and it works now, but only if the VPN is turned off. So, if you have a separate VPN I suggest turning it off and giving it a try. I hope this can save people some headache!

Update!

I turned off voice shortcuts as somebody suggested, and everything is working fine with a wireless CarPlay adapter!

The only downfall with the adapter is there is a bit of a lag ~ I still have to try a regular USB to C cord. But I believe that this fix the issue.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, "my voice command" setting in "accessibility" is / was already turned off. I happen to have two different Hondas with a couple of years apart. The failing 2023 CRV just got an update a few days before IOS 18 came out. Once IOS 18 was installed on my iPhone, I started seeing intermittent audio connectivity failures. Mapping applications (Waze, Apple Maps, and Google Maps)and I Heart Radio launch fine, just no or very low sound volume. Many times, I can go into Apple Car Play, disable and re-enable my IPhone, and many times it re-connects. Very strange.

I have an iPhone 11 and updated to iOS 18 and have a lot of the same problems here , maps does not work, Siri won’t read messages , CarPlay won’t work I disconnected and reconnected it and redid Bluetooth connection and turned off and on phone, nothing helps, please advise ! Thank you.

Carplay only works when using cable but my messages and phone icon aren’t showing on my cars screen, and when I try to use Siri it’s saying to download app to use it but I don’t know hat app it wants me to download 🤦🏽‍♀️

so I have a temp fix that works until Apple gets a patch

go to settings display and brightness and scroll down to auto lock and click never and make sure your screen is on after plugging into CarPlay your screen will stay on continuously but all controls will work, it seems to glitch when screen shuts off , hope this helps

Having the same issue after updating iOS 18. The sound quality becomes like radio when I switch off the screen and I need to forget the device and reconnect it all over again like a new device. Apple better fix this issue

This is what worked for me.

Hyundai Ioniq, CarPlay was fine last night on iOS 18. Phone updated overnight and car play stopped working completely. I reset my car unit, forgot the car in CarPlay, turned everything off, etc nothing worked. CarPlay didn’t even see my car. Resetting the network settings brought everything back.

i have my IPhone 15 updated with iOS 18.0.1 and the Apple CarPlay is not working in my Mazda car. Every time I start the car, the carplay doesn’t connet through bluetooth. If I delete the phone and connect it manually, it works but after I turn off the car and start it again, the same happens. The Carplay doesn’t work by bluetooth and I have issues with the wired connection as well.

Yep this is what mine does. IF it works initially, just touching the screen on the phone will cut the sound, my steering wheel controls won’t work to change anything, music is like it’s coming thru a toilet roll at the end of a hallway, and sound keeps dropping out totally for a sec or two every few min.

I have an opposite issue than what people mentioned here. Apple CarPlay works with the USB cable but doesn’t work with Bluetooth (get a connection error message). I have IPhone 12pro and my car is a Toyota Highlander 24. It was working before updating to IOS 18. I tried all possible suggestions but with no luck. I can blame it on Apple.

I still can’t get my Apple car play to work at all and have not had any help from Apple Steve jobs would have had this fixed . I really need Apple CarPlay please fix faster I really use car play as lot . I can’t believe that Apple is not carrying about CarPlay any more . I am going to the Samsung store today to look at a new phone if this is how bad Apple programming is now . Not a happy customer

mkrabill, the exact same thing happened to me using Apple Car Play with my Lexus after updating to iOS 18. My wife's phone still works normally in the Lexus using iOS 17. I ended up following a YouTube video and reverting back to iOS 17, and voila, my phone works with Apple Car Play in the Lexus once again. On the flip side I did not have a backup on my Mac/iTunes of my phone with iOS 17 so I lost all my data/settings etc. I'm working through that issue now as I do have a backup on my iCloud but is with iOS 18. Anyway, I hope I can get everything working normally again.

Never had any of the voice stuff enabled to begin with. Carplay connects, and works for the most part. It is, however, buggy. The steering wheel button to engage Siri doesn't work anymore. Certain popups, like reminder or alarms, at times, cannot be dismissed without using the phone. On iOS 17.x everything worked 100%, 18.01, not so much.
