After updating to iOS 18 the calendar freezes when I try to edit it. I have tried to restart it several times, but it doesn’t help. Any suggestions? Hoping for a quick trouble fix update.

Same issue with my iPad Pro M4 13" as well as my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Have tried offloading and reloading calendar from storage, uninstalling and reinstalling calendar and showing only our shared family calendar with no tasks, changing from sync all past events to just the last two weeks, as well as multiple forced and non-forced restarts on both devices, signing out and back into iCloud on the iPad, unpairing and repairing my Apple Ultra v2 watch to the iPhone. When try to add any event to the calendar on the iPad the application freezes and then on restarting the app the calendar is blank requiring a reboot. Very similar behavior on the iPhone except for a few times successfully added a test event.
Also calendar app is chewing up my battery on both devices with background activity to the point where my iPad is shut down hoping 18.0.1 solves this issue soon. Soon after the update the phone gave a suspended charging temperature alert but this has improved. After shutting down the iPad a few days ago the phone continued to show that the majority of battery use is calendar background activity but battery drain seemed to be approaching normal behavior but as I type the phone is warm at 47% charge down from 90% with overnight charge after only 3 1/2 hours use showing calendar at 66% background activity/18h 10m. Traveling next week and would be nice to see this resolved prior to the trip.
Prior to shutting down the iPad was also having an issue with mail syncing between iPad & iPhone from my exchange account but secondary battery drain was playing with settings from push to fetch and since returning to push improved but still had to sort through emails on the iPad after deleted them from the iPhone before I shut the iPad down.
Also have iMac Pro 2017 and iMac M3 updated same day as did iOS 18 to Sequoia which thankfully has been painless.
Update! The guy handling my support case told me that Apple developer team has registered the issue and are working on a solution. The solution will be included in an update.
Exactly my experience as well. I managed to disable automatic updates on my iPhone, so I will wait quite a while before upgrading the phone. I also have done the same with my iPad to keep it from updating automatically in the future.
Me, too. Upgraded my IPhone 15 Pro to iOS 18 & immediately had problems with the calendar as you described. Also eats up my battery (drained it completely < 3 hours at work). I also have NordVPN running. Didn’t sweat it too much at the time because my iPhone 16 Pro was due to arrive. But it too has the exact same issues.
My calendar is useless to use on any format…I run a combo of iCloud (family shared and not) plus my work’s exchange account. I’ve tried disabling combinations w/o success. I need a new update, I guess. I’m now venturing out to 3rd party calendar solutions. By far and away my worst transition between iOS updates and/or new phone upgrades. iPad, M4 Pro 11” was also upgraded and experiencing calendar freezing issues too.
I might need to see about downgrading my new iPhone 16 Pro to iOS 17, but that worries me since my new phone was obviously designed with iOS 18 for its operating system.
Minor update as I try to solve my calendar problems. I do have an Exchange account (my work) that connects via 3rd party app for two-party authentication (Hub by VMWare). I have another iPad on iOS 18 that is not connected to my Exchange account. I was able to operate my iOS calendar with normal functions (doesn’t freeze up).
I spent over an hour with Apple support on Friday. They didn’t have any reports about this issue. Important that everybody contacts them about this. I ended up having to reset my iPad totally. Now the calendar is working as normal. It isn’t my favorite thing to set up my iPad from scratch, but at least it fixed the problem.
I also did the ios18 update and absolutely hate what they’ve done to the calander. When trying to input time you we’re able to activate the keypad and input the time instead of the wheel. But, now when you try to input the time using the keypad it makes you hit the hour and minute necessary separately to input and even then that doesn’t work seamlessly! I hate this new downdate!
Calendar on iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 18.0 and on MacBook Pro M1 Pro with MacOS 15.0 both freeze when attempting to leave changes to an event in Calendar, including a new event. I've found that if I wait 10-15 minutes, the freezing will finally give way to saving the data and I can use the app again. It's a crazy long time to change the time of an appointment or to create a new one. It's usable in only the direst of situations. Who has 10 minutes to wait for it unfreeze? I've reported it to Apple, but no response.
Update: Calendar app on iOS 18.0 on iPhone 14 Pro began working properly this afternoon without delay. Must be because of a change in Apple's servers. Calendar on MacOS 15.0 still has lengthy delay and is not fixed yet.

I had two Exchange accounts plus iCloud for Calendar events, but after deleting both Exchange accounts, and even other Exchange accounts not relating to my Calendar, the problems remain the same on my MacBook Pro M1 Pro. Did you have any other Apple devices with your Exchange account connected to your Calendar? I'm wondering if all Exchange accounts from all Apple devices on the account must be deleted before Calendar on any Apple device will work properly. This is a problem that Apple has created, not Microsoft, but Apple is not moving fast enough to resolve it. Even MacOS 15.01 has the same issue.
I had this issue with my work iPhone 15. What helped was to remove all of the accounts in Calendar (exchange, outlook, gmail), restart the phone and then add the accounts back. The IT support at my work needed to remove temporally the Exchange account since it's mandatory to have (and then they added it back again). However, it didn't work by only removing the Exchange account as stated by another user, I need to remove all I had except for iCloud.
As of my last post I had only removed my exchange account which then allowed me to add calendar events on our shared family calendar on my iPhone 15 Pro Max and 13" iPad Pro M4 but unfortunately the issue recurred when I added back in the exchange account on both devices. Based on your post I tried removing all accounts except iCloud including exchange, google, yahoo and my internet service provide (ISP). Again, the issue resolved with removing the other accounts and rebooting both devices but recurred on both when I added back just the exchange and ISP accounts. Hoping 18.1 solves the issue.
I installed IOS 18.1 on my iPad today. Then I added the exchange account to check if the problem was solved, but no it wasn’t.
I am now using the Outlook calendar for both my exchange account and for my iCloud account. Everything works well there, but I like the IOS calendar better, so I hoping for 18.2 😆.
dortuno, I too tried deleting accounts in Calendar, however they do not delete. I'm having calendar problems on my iPad, as well as my Mac with the new operating system. I hope they get this fixed soon, and I'm surprised there aren't more people screaming about this.
Sorry for the additional post but also disconnected NordVPN which was actively running on my iPad during the trouble shooting and there was no change.
Yes, startet up with “a new iPad “. And unfortunately I can’t start up using a backup because my iPad is administrated by my work.
