Editing a FCP Project Across Two Computers with External Drives

I am trying to work out a system where my friend can begin editing a Final Cut Pro project, and I will finish it. I gave him a SanDisk external hard drive, and he copied his FCP Library onto it and gave it to me to work on. The Library and files are there when I plug the drive into my MacBook, but the project is not. Is there any way to fix this issue?

As Tom mentioned, a new FCP user will sometimes mistakenly edit inside a clip rather than creating and working in a project. If you think this might be the case, look for a clip that has a duration around what you'd expect the project to be and a modification time that matches when your other editor worked in the library.
