Cannot add AirDrop to Finder sidebar in Sequoia

I noticed that after updating to Sequoia, AirDrop has disappeared from the Finder sidebar. If I try to add it back from the settings, it appears for a fraction of a second, then the checkbox deselects itself again. If I navigate to AirDrop from the Go menu, all appears normal and it works correctly so I am unsure why this is happening

I had the exact same issue and it was driving me crazy. Then I read this post from OP (Cannot add AirDrop to Finder sidebar in S… - Apple Community) where he wrote he switched of all iPads and iPhones. So I switched off my iPhone and iPad and restarted my Macbook and it started to work again like a charm. Really weird, but maybe this really depends on interfering devices (maybe running on the same Apple-ID)? After my Mac worked again, I switched my iPhone and iPad back on and it still works.

Shall leave this as per below.

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that cannot be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

AntiVirus Developers purposefully Market their product to create a “ Fear Factor “. In so doing, creating a False Need for their Product.

There is Adware & Malware which will affect the computer and is generally downloaded from “ Shady “ Websites or Developers who Inject this software into the download.

Here's another issue which may be similar, or not. I have my fn button set to "show desktop" by setting it in the System Settings/Desktop & Displays/Short Cuts. Makes it easier to work on my MacBook Pro.

However, every time I reboot the MacBook Pro that setting disappears, and I have to reset it again.

Again not exactly the same as the AirDrop issue (which I have), but seems to be similar. Some settings just aren't holding in Sequoia.

Same problem. Rebooted Finder - that worked until the end of the day. Next morning - no AirDrop in Sidebar.

OK, possible to go and select 'GO' and then down to 'Airdrop', but easier, more convenient and quicker to use the sidebar.

So why have Apple stopped this? What reason, other than to make the Mac less convenient to use, which - from Day 1 - is what always set Apple apart.

Sure, I can go through the Finder reboot all over again, then reset everything on the desktop (even though the Finder 'Settings' don't action what they claim - now have filename extensions showing on every Desktop file, even though that is unchecked in Settings - didn't happen before reboot). All small, minor but very annoying and unnecessary.

What is going wrong at Apple.....?

Thanks, wasn't aware of that. Not as convenient as the sidebar but better than the GO and drop down. I'll use that - until the b****y sidebar issue get's fixed!

Airdrop is used regularly, becoming almost indispensable, hence the frustration. Why doesn't Apple give their updates a thorough test? They will say that they do, of course, but that's just a defensive response.

Hi there.

The crazy thing is. I have never used FileVault in my life and it has been disabled on all my Mac's, never even enabled i ones and i still have it on all my Mac's (Only on my 2 Apple Silicon Mac's, not my Intel) so i guess it can also happen when FileVault is disabled. I'm on 15.5 now and it all started after 15.4.x if i remember right.
