macOS Sequoia network issues

Like many others, Sequoia started behaving very sluggish from the very beginning. The computer itself was slow, but I also had trouble accessing the company's Microsoft 365 environment. I couldn't access SharePoint, OneDrive repeatedly asked me to log in, DNS resolution frequently didn't work, Teams refused to allow me to join meetings, the browser versions of Office, Excel etc didn't work, etc.

First thing was to uninstall the VPN software I sometimes have to use to connect to the office network from home. I'll wait for the vendor to release an update.

While at the office, my MacBook Pro is connected to both WiFi and cabled Ethernet. Once I unplugged the cable, things started behaving better - that's clearly a bug, and it has always worked just fine in older versions of macOS.

Setting Private Wi-Fi address to "fixed" helped with the frequent network disconnects. I've now set it to "off" (because I rarely use public Wi-Fi networks).

Things are now mostly back to normal. I hope this helps others struggling with similar issues.

Yes, this is a widely reported bug in Sequoia (just google intermittent internet connection Sequoia). As stated turning off the firewall usually works, it did on my 2019 imac and 2023 mac studio. This appears to be the only workaround until Apple fixes the network bug(s). The real question is, of course, why did Apple release an operating system update where many Mac owners have to to turn off the built-in firewall to get a stable internet connection?

Also having intermittent network issues since updated MacOS to Sequoia.

Even after downgrading back to Sonomo, some Macs lose their network connection randomly, either in the middle of the day or in the morning after a reboot.

Reapplying all network settings restores network connection for a while. So, we've created a script that does so that users can fix the issue by running it, but any suggestions regarding is welcome.

Note that the Server Firewall has been on for months. The server is owned by a corporation and has 3rd party protection software installed

If the OS was upgraded in place, its worth trying re-installing the third party protection software. All of my connection loss issues vanished after uninstalling my Sophos Endpoint Protection client. I suspect that the in-place upgrade of the OS with the changes its making to the networking stack isn't playing nicely with already-installed third party software.

I have an update :

It looks that my "Problem" it's Microsoft Defender ( or something related to it).

As a recap : i already have Mac Os Sequoia 15.0.1 that does NOT solve the problem, i am using VPN (Fortinet /Cisco) and leaving everything active on the Network Extensions made the Mac Os Network connection disconnect.(General/Login items & Extensions/Network Extensions)

Disabling Microsoft Defender Extension made my pc connected again and stable without any disconnection. I've tried it for many hours and i can say that (for me) this is the main problem.

Our support is working on it if i have update i will share with you all .

This problem is still with my M1 MacMini (LAN cable to modem). There doesn't seem to be a pattern except that at start-up the internet will work, then stop a little time after that (but not always). Then, I switch on WiFi (it works, most times) and then switch off WiFi and go back to LAN only. Sometimes this doesn't work, and I need to restart and that works...half the time. It just crashed again while I was typing this (fortunately, I copied what I had typed and pasted it in) - I had to switch on WiFi again to get internet access. Had. Enough.

Turns out that this server is the only computer in the building that does not have Ntiva installed. So that was not an issue.

However, server now stays on for random length of time. Rebooted yesterday morning and it stayed on until 4 AM today. Had to reboot twice today, getting about 2 hours on a boot.

I used set it up to reboot every day of the week at midnightusing:

sudo pmset repeat restart MTWRFSU 00:00:00

Now looking for a way I can have our remote webpage monitoring service send a message that can be used to trigger a reboot.

Update 15.1 seems to have fixed issues regarding disconnection, but I still had issues with Wi-Fi that wouldn't connect to 802.11ac (Wi-Fi AC) and always connected to 802.11n which is slower...

I figured out what the problem was, and I’m writing this down just in case someone else has the same issue.

The issue was with the router. For a 5G connection, you need to use a lower channel. In my case, the router automatically set the channel to 156, and my Mac Mini M2 Pro never connected to this channel. I changed the channel to a lower one (36 in my case) and voila connection to 802.11ac was fixed, and I'm back to full speed.

I didn't have problems with my wi-fi randomly disconnecting until I updated 15.01 to 15.1. My wi-fi connection drops at least 6 times a day; my primary network will not auto-connect, I have to select it. I updated my wife's MacBook Air from macOS 14 Sonoma to macOS 15.1 Sequoia and boy is she really mad at me for updating her computer since she is having the same wi-fi issue. There is absolutely no problem with my network as I use YouTube TV and it is on the same network as our laptops.

Same issue. Upgraded from Sonoma to 15.1.

Mac Studio

M1 Ultra

10Gb to SNS Server, direct connection.

Video editing, Adobe Premiere

Was working fine before upgrade.

Since on 15.1 it will disconnect the network drives when I do an export from Adobe Premiere, sometimes right away sometimes after it gets halfway through the export. The drives just disconnect. Tried all the usual fixes, even a Thunderbolt 10Gb adapter. All "fixes" gave the same result, no fix. For me not even a fix for a little while, all setting changes/adjustments gave no change.

The curious point is that when I'm just working in Premiere and not exporting it's fine, no disconnection. It's almost like the sustained high throughput causes it to crash.

Luckily I had the media I needed on another drive or I would be dead in the water with no way to export this project.

More information. Just clicking on files and playing videos from the network drive is fine but for example UnZipping a file causes it to disconnect. Copying files from the network drive to an external hard drive is fine, no disconnection.

However we are dead in the water! As I cannot export any video projects, all our main video media is on the network drive and would take hours/days to move to another non-network drive.
